TELA no. 12 by Dodie Sy transforms canvas, ink, and acrylic paint into a deeply textural wall work that sits between painting and relief. Layered, folded, and built outward from the surface, the piece carries the movement, tactility, and sense of “controlled chaos” that define Sy’s practice, where texture is used to make the work feel more real, less fixed, and distinctly hand-formed. In the artist’s TELA series, fabric becomes a sculptural medium shaped through repetition, experimentation, and an interest in frayed edges, movement, and materials that hold both structure and softness.
